Thomas Dent Mütter, Philadelphia, Pa., surgeon and teacher, was bornin Richmond, Va., on 9 Mar. 1811. He received an M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1831, then studied medicine in Europe. In 1841, during the reorganization of Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Mütter became professor of surgery there and held that post until ill health forced him to resign it in 1856.
